These Forgotten Home Hacks Deserve a Comeback!
5. The Rice Bottle Cleaner
Cleaning a narrow-necked bottle from the inside is often a difficult task. Our hand cannot reach deep inside the bottle, and an ordinary sponge also fails to clean the dirt at the bottom. Even a bottle-cleaning brush doesn't easily reach every spot. In such a situation, a simple home remedy using rice can prove very useful. For this, put a spoonful of raw rice into the bottle.
Then, add a little lukewarm water and a drop of dish soap to it. Now, seal or cover the mouth of the bottle tightly and shake it vigorously for a while. Small grains of rice swirl inside the bottle and act like a gentle scrubber. They help loosen the dirt and old residue stuck to the bottom and sides. After this, open the bottle and pour out the rice and the dirty water. Then, rinse the bottle thoroughly several times with clean water to ensure no soap or rice grains remain inside.
This method can be useful for cleaning glass bottles, vases, and some reusable containers. If the mouth of the bottle is very small, a small funnel can be used to pour in the rice. This simple method does not require any expensive or special brush. A little rice, water, and soap items found right at home can make cleaning tasks easier. However, one should avoid shaking a very fragile or easily breakable bottle vigorously.
